VENEZUELA

July 2008

The process of international collaboration with South America opened by CAE a few years ago continues.

On the 9th of July 2008, representatives of CAE and of some of the Italian Institutions involved in this process, met in Savona, at the headquarters of CIMA Foundation, to discuss the progress of the several initiatives undertaken.

It was acknowledged that all initiatives launched by CAE received a warm welcome either by the Italian Embassies in South America or by the national institutions involved.

Among these initiative, great importance is given to a global network for the multi-risk control to be set up on a national scale in Venezuela. The project, although mainly oriented to hydro-geologic risk, also gives attention to other important risks, such as transport of dangerous materials, forest fires and industrial activities.

Once implemented, it could allow the local civil protection to work mostly in the terms of disaster prevention, making post-disaster intervention easier and less costly.

The Italian involvement was originated by the very positive evaluation of a group of experts nominated by the Venezuelan Civil Protection that, after visiting and analyzing a number of international realities involved in disaster prevention, decided that the Italian Civil Protection structure and working system was definitely the most advanced and the most suitable for the needs of Venezuela.

The initiative, unique in its kind, has a great social and political involvement. In fact, it establishes the base for a bi-multilateral cooperation in a highly critical sector in which our country is the protagonist. This process of technology transfer is fully in line with CAE's philosophy, that is to promote and diffuse as much as possible the model of success achieved in its domestic activities to all the organizations that are its clients or linked to it.
