IN PROVINCE OF MODENA BORN THE NEW OPERATIONAL CENTRE FOR THE CIVIL PROTECTION

September 2008

Modena opens the new Unified Provincial Operational Centre for the Civil Protection.
The 27 September in the city of Marzaglia (Modena), was cut the ribbon of a Unit aimed to gather together the administrative and operational functions of the provincial Civil Protection. A finishing line of efficiency that sees CAE in a leading role as the supplier of all instruments for the Operational Centre: the brain for the Civil Protection to plan and manage emergencies across the territory.  While moving to the new headquarter, the Province also launched the process of updating all software packages used by operational platforms.
The fellowship between the Company and the Civil Protection, that landed today in creation of the technological structure for this new Operational Centre, dates back from 1966 when the institution, supported by CAE, started implementing the first provincial networks for the monitoring of hydraulic risks for the Secchia and Panaro rivers watersheds.
“The competence and quickness of CAE – explains Dr. Rita Nicolini, manager of the Council Department for Environment, Defence of Territory, Civil Protection and Fauna Policies -  favoured the starting of operation of the network through which the Province exerts its competences for the forecasting and management of emergencies. CAE instruments, - continues Rita Nicolini – are used not only during interventions, but furnish an important support to the Province for the development of all Civil Protection activities. Data originated from CAE sensors are in facts essential for the province to plan and manage emergencies,  for the coordination with communal administrations and allocation of resources”.
The evolution of the forecasting instruments as the “hinges” of Civil Protection efficiency at national level, was also presented in a paper at the Congress “ Policies for the forecasting, prevention and management of risk in local territories”, that anticipated the inauguration of the Operational Centre.   It is enhanced the role of a technological partner capable to develop a permanently evolving offer, to assist involved institutions in the effort of continuously improving their capacity to prevent disasters and protect civil populations.
