ENI AND CAE TO TIGHTEN THEIR COOPERATION ON REAL TIME MONITORING SYSTEMS

February 2012

ENI relies once again on CAE expertise and technology to renew and upgrade its meteorological and marine monitoring system placed along the Adriatic Sea and in front of Sicilian coasts.
As an important tool to support and safeguard off-shore operations, up to now ENI has been operating a monitoring network made up of 6 off-shore monitoring stations and 2 stations on the mainland. The six off-shore stations have been customized to be installed and work properly on platforms. All of them transmit data in real time, via UHF communication modules, to two monitoring centers in related offices of the oil company.

New activities started since December 2011. The new agreement includes the update of the existing monitoring network, the integration of three new off-shore stations and one new monitoring center. Being the installation sites in critical areas and conditions, a strong cooperation between technical staff is expected.

Together with the system upgrade and its expansion, ENI placed a contract for the whole maintenance program throughout the following few years with CAE. It includes both planned and corrective activities, to be carried out either remotely or in field, to ensure a 100% reliability of the monitoring system, regardless of extreme external conditions.

Among other sea related parameters, ENI is going to receive data updated every 10 minutes such as “wave height”, “average sea level”, “wave period” and “water temperature”. Among other meteorological parameters, ENI will collect real-time data such as “air temperature and humidity”, “wind speed and direction”, “atmospheric pressure”, “solar radiation”, “rain intensity” and “horizontal visibility”.

All these measures constitute an important support to make decisions in real time, especially with regard to off-shore activity management. This critical issue makes the availability of data a key factor especially in case of extreme meteorological conditions. This is the reason leading ENI to choose once again CAE as its partner; this is the reason making CAE the right partner to support ENI.
