CAE at Capanna Margherita

January 2002

The hut, Capanna Margherita, is situated overlooking Mount Rosa which stands at 4556m above sea level.

In 2002, the Piedmont Region commissioned CAE to design a monitoring system for recording meteorological values of temperature, solar radiation and wind speed, which are useful in weather forecasts. At that time, the refuge was known as the highest existing meteorological station in Europe.

CAE was the artifice of this station, and designed it to be completely automated, so as to reduce maintenance to the minimum.

The sensors developed for environmental surveys are built with cutting-edge technologies and materials.

The system is specially designed to return reliable data, even in very extreme climatic conditions, like violent gusts of wind and rigid temperatures, as well as in situations where rime ice may paralyze normally used tools through ice concretions.
