A TENDER GAINED AND A NEW CHALLENGE FOR CAE

October 2007

CAE has won the tender for the realization of the hydro meteorological alert system for the central provinces in Vietnam.

The project is managed by the National Hydro Meteorological Service, the Vietnamese institution in charge of the monitoring of atmospheric phenomena. At the moment, final details are being set up and the work is about to start.

Purpose of the project is the installation of a hydro meteorological monitoring system extended across 5 central provinces of the country: a network composed of 74 stations equipped with rain gauges, hydrometers and other sensors for the real-time monitoring of the atmospheric conditions, plus 5 local control centres for the management and sharing of data.

This is the first phase of a wider project, aimed to build a complex Vietnamese system for the early warning and the prediction of potential catastrophes caused by extreme atmospheric events.

The area considered as part of this project is frequently hit by typhoons and subject to abundant and violent precipitations. CAE will realize a reliable system able monitor the evolving of these atmospheric phenomenona, allowing the competent authorities to intervene promptly to limit damages.

The project has been set after an accurate study and survey – conducted by CAE – of local conditions. The goal was to plan, together with the Vietnamese conterparts, a strategy able to take into consideration even minor variables to guarantee the highest benefit from the project.

All CAE professional competence and skills will be devoted to built the best monitoring system in consideration of local requirements and site conditions.
